Scavenger Guilds

Scavenger Guilds of the Western Frontier

The edge of the Mana Wastes is a lawless land where survival is rarely a solo endeavor. In the shadow of Fortune's Lake, several powerful guilds have risen to dominate the lucrative but deadly trade of Aether-scavenging.

1. The Dust-Walkers

The most professional and well-funded organization in the region. Led by Captain Kaelen, a former Magister from Kigum, the Dust-Walkers approach scavenging with military precision. They utilize specialized "Gravity Anchors" and lead-lined carts to transport heavy yields of corrupted crystals.

  • Philosophy: "Efficiency is Survival."
  • Specialty: Large-scale extraction of stable (or semi-stable) Aether veins.

2. The Vulture Syndicate

Less of a guild and more of a criminal enterprise, the Vultures thrive on the efforts of others. They rarely venture deep into the Wastes themselves, instead patrolling the "Return Paths" to ambush exhausted scavengers.

  • Philosophy: "Why dig when you can take?"
  • Specialty: Theft, smuggling, and protection rackets in the outskirts of Fortune's Lake.

3. The Echoes of Ruin

A fringe group of mystics and madmen who view the Mana Wastes as a crucible for evolution. They believe the "Crystal Blight" is a gift from the Aether itself. They often go without protective gear, and many are heavily mutated.

  • Philosophy: "The Wastes do not destroy; they reveal."
  • Specialty: Locating rare, highly volatile artifacts that more sane scavengers avoid.

4. The Spark-Chasers (The Freelancers)

Not a single entity, but a collective of independent contractors. They often gather at the Drunken Drake Tavern in Fortune's Lake to form temporary "pacts" for specific runs. They are the most common type of scavenger, and also the most likely to never return.

  • Philosophy: "High risk, higher reward."
  • Specialty: Versatility and desperation.

Guild Relations

The Dust-Walkers and the Vultures are in a state of perpetual "cold war." The Dust-Walkers have the firepower, but the Vultures know the back-alleys of Fortune's Lake. The Echoes are generally left alone—partly out of pity, and partly out of fear of what they are becoming.
