Gravity Anchors

Gravity Anchors
Type: Utility Item Origin: Steamfort Engineering / Scavenger Guilds
Gravity Anchors are essential tools for anyone venturing into the Mana Wastes or the more volatile regions of the Broad Swells. They are heavy, brass-encased devices, roughly the size of a large lantern, that use a stabilized Aether-core to generate a localized, high-density gravity field. When activated and placed on the ground (or attached to a ship's hull), they create a 20-foot radius zone of "Normal Gravity," protecting the user from the unpredictable gravity inversions and "Slingshots" common in corrupted areas.
These devices are robust but require a constant supply of refined Aether-crystals to function. They can also be used as temporary "Anchors" for aerial descent, allowing a person to drop from an airship and land safely by briefly intensifying the gravity field just before impact. Despite their utility, Gravity Anchors are notoriously heavy and clunky, and a malfunction can be disastrous, potentially pinning the user to the spot with several thousand pounds of artificial weight.
Plot Hooks:
- The Anchor's Failure: The party is navigating a floating island in the Mana Wastes when their Gravity Anchor begins to flicker. They must find a way to recharge it using raw, volatile crystals before they drift off into the sky.
- The Salvage Mission: A prototype "Super-Anchor" has been lost in a shipwreck in the Boundary Ocean. The party is hired to retrieve the device before it creates a permanent gravity-well that endangers shipping lanes.
- The Anchor Trap: A group of pirates uses a series of hidden Gravity Anchors to ground a Kigum transport airship, allowing them to board and plunder it. The party must find and disable the anchors to allow the ship to escape.
