Scavenger Grix

Scavenger Grix
Scavenger Grix is one of the most eccentric and successful "Root-Divers" in Drift-Haven. A wiry Mist-Whisker with fur that is permanently stained with oil and salt, Grix spends his days diving into the dark, shark-infested waters beneath the mangroves of The Shrouded Boughs. He is a master at locating and extracting valuable artifacts from the hundreds of shipwrecks that have drifted into the root-system over the centuries.
Grix operates a cluttered stall in the Barnacle Market called "Grix’s Glints," where he sells everything from rusted iron gears and silver-plated spoons to rare, pre-flood magical trinkets. He has a particular obsession with the technology of the "Tall Races," especially anything that hums, clicks, or glows with aether-energy. While many in Drift-Haven view him as a harmless (if somewhat crazed) hoarder, his knowledge of the root-labyrinth and its secrets is second only to Captain Squeak.
He is a solitary mouse by nature, preferring the company of his "treasures" to other Muridae. However, he is always willing to share his knowledge—for a price—with anyone who shows a genuine interest in the artifacts he has recovered.
Secret Motivation: Grix has found a series of mysterious, glowing plates in a deep-water wreck that he believes are part of a legendary "Sea-Engine." He is secretly trying to rebuild the engine in a hidden root-grotto, hoping it will allow the Mousefolk to sail the Boughs away from the Boundary Ocean if the mist ever fails.
Adventure Hook: Grix has found a locked, iron-bound chest in a dangerous section of the root-maze guarded by a Root-Crab. He can't open it himself and needs the party's help to recover it and find the key, which he believes is held by a Pirate Lord on the mainland.
