Isolationist Conflicts

Orchestrated Shadows: The Conflicts of Isolation
To keep Lemmion pure and undisturbed, Matriarch Sylas Moonsong has spent eight centuries orchestrating "unfortunate accidents" and "border skirmishes" to discourage any interest in her domain.
The Massacre of the Silver Spires (412 AW)
A human expedition from the settlement of Beaton discovered a path through the mist-shrouded foothills of Lemmion. Instead of meeting them with diplomats, Sylas ordered the forest itself to respond. She used the Heart to accelerate the growth of the carnivorous "Snap-Vine" flora, trapping the expedition in a narrow gorge. To ensure no word reached Beaton, she sent a small unit of Wardens to eliminate the survivors. To the world outside, the expedition simply vanished into the "Unforgiving Wastes."
The War of Whispers (560-565 AW)
When the Gilded Hand mercantile guild attempted to establish a trade route that would pass near the enclave's northern border, Sylas began a campaign of misinformation. She used magical messengers to plant rumors in the guild's home cities of plague-infested forests and vengeful spirits. When the guild sent scouts anyway, they were found dead, their bodies covered in strange, non-existent fungi. The fear of "The Rotting Woods" kept traders away for over a century.
The Betrayal of the Blue Moon (689 AW)
A group of rogue elves from Dal'Dur sought asylum in Lemmion, bringing with them artifacts from the pre-Ruin era. Fearing that these artifacts would draw the attention of the Mana-Wastes scavengers, Sylas welcomed them into a "Sanctuary Grove" which was actually a containment zone. She then tipped off a band of ruthless mercenaries to their location. In the ensuing slaughter, both the refugees and the mercenaries were eliminated by "mysterious" forest guardians. Sylas then claimed the artifacts for her own secret vault.
The Thistle-Gate Incident (798 AW)
Most recently, an ambitious lord from Phord attempted to build a fortress overlooking the valley. Sylas did not attack the fortress directly. Instead, she had her Wardens tunnel beneath the foundation and plant "Deep-Roots." Within a week, the fortress literally crumbled into the earth as the roots tore the stone apart. The incident was blamed on unstable soil caused by the Mana Wastes, and the site is now considered cursed.
Strategic Tactics
- False Flag Operations: Using magic to make elven attacks look like the work of wild beasts or arcane anomalies.
- The Mists of Forgetfulness: Enchanting the border mists so that those who wander too close lose their sense of direction and short-term memory.
- Controlled Fear: Occasionally allowing a single "shattered" survivor to return to civilization to spread tales of the horrors that lurk near Lemmion.
