The Gilded Hand

The Gilded Hand
The Gilded Hand is the premier thieves' guild operating in the sprawling metropolis of Kigum. While pickpockets and thugs are common in the lower districts, The Gilded Hand operates on a much grander, more sophisticated scale. They are white-collar criminals, master burglars, and information brokers.
The Shadow Economy
The Gilded Hand does not deal in petty street crime. Their targets are corrupt nobles, rival merchant consortiums, and occasionally, the Grand Arcane Bank itself (though these heists are exceptionally rare and require years of planning). They control the city's black market, smuggling unrefined Aether and forbidden artifacts past the city guards.
Leadership: The Shadow Council
The guild is run by a triumvirate known as the Shadow Council:
- The Weaver: Handles information, blackmail, and political manipulation. Rumored to be a high-ranking noble within House Valerius.
- The Phantom: Organizes the physical heists and controls the network of master thieves. Known only by a silver mask.
- The Fence: Manages the economic side, laundering stolen goods and maintaining the black market. Often operates out of high-end art galleries.
Rules of the Hand
- No Unnecessary Bloodshed: Murder brings the Arcane Guard. The Hand prides itself on operating unseen. Killing is a last resort.
- The Tithe: All independent thieves operating in Kigum must pay a 10% tithe to the Hand, or face severe "accidents."
- Honor Among Thieves: Betraying the guild is the only crime punishable by death. The execution is always public and theatrical, serving as a warning.
The Gilded Hand maintains an uneasy truce with the city watch. As long as the guild keeps violent crime off the streets and targets only those who can "afford" to lose wealth, the authorities often turn a blind eye to their more subtle operations.
