Relics of the Pitch: Legendary Aether-Sphere Gear

Over the centuries, certain items used in the Grand Conduit have gained a level of fame (or infamy) that transcends the sport. These items are often sought after by collectors, adventurers, and team owners looking for an edge.

Legendary Spheres

The Core of the First Spark

  • Wondrous Item, Legendary
  • This was the sphere used in the very first match in 42 AR. It is permanently "Redlined" but stable, glowing with a soft, pulsing golden light.
  • Effect: While holding this sphere, you have advantage on all Intelligence (Arcana) and Strength (Athletics) checks. Once per day, you can use the sphere to cast Hallow, but only to create a "Sanctuary" effect.

The Void-Orb of Vaxas

  • Wondrous Item, Very Rare
  • Used by the notorious Abyssal Terrors during their "Blackout Season." It is made of matte-black obsidian that seems to drink the light.
  • Effect: When thrown, this sphere creates a 20-foot radius of Magical Darkness at its destination. The thrower can see through this darkness.

Player Equipment

Hadrick’s Heavy Gauntlets

  • Wondrous Item, Rare (Requires Attunement)
  • Prototype steam-powered gauntlets designed by Forge-Master Hadrick himself for the first Steamfort Ironclads.
  • Effect: Your Strength score becomes 19 while wearing these gauntlets. Additionally, you deal double damage to objects and structures with your unarmed strikes. In an Aether-Sphere match, you have advantage on "Tackle" actions.

The Weaver’s Harp-Bracer

  • Wondrous Item, Rare (Requires Attunement by a Bard or Wizard)
  • A delicate silver bracer with three Aether-tuned strings. It allows a Weaver to "play" the vibrations of the sphere.
  • Effect: You can use your Charisma or Intelligence modifier for "Pass" and "Shoot" checks instead of Strength or Dexterity. You can cast Misty Step twice per long rest.

Boots of the Cloud-Dancer

  • Wondrous Item, Rare (Requires Attunement)
  • Worn by the legendary Muridae glidist, Zephyr. They are light as a feather and hum with a low frequency.
  • Effect: You gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed in Low or Zero Gravity. You can use a bonus action to "Push-Off" a surface, moving up to 15 feet without provoking opportunity attacks.

Consumables

Redline Resin

  • Potion, Rare
  • A volatile blue gel used to "slick" a sphere or a player's hands.
  • Effect: For 1 minute, the next sphere you touch becomes "Surging." If the sphere is already Surging, it becomes "Redlined."
