The Grand Conduit

The Grand Conduit

The Grand Conduit

The Grand Conduit is the largest and most famous Aether-Sphere stadium in Aethervale. Suspended by twelve massive Aether-anchors over the "Glimmering Chasm" at the center of the known world, it is a neutral territory where no single faction holds sway.

Architectural Wonder

The stadium is a hollowed-out, iron-reinforced floating island. Its interior is a perfect sphere, 300 feet in diameter, with the playing court suspended in the center by localized gravity fields. The seating galleries encircle the court, providing every spectator with a 360-degree view of the action.

  • The Crystal Canopy: The entire stadium is capped with a dome of reinforced Kigum glass, allowing the sunlight (and moonlight) to illuminate the pitch while protecting spectators from the high-altitude winds.
  • The Gravity Rings: Rotating rings of brass and silver surround the pitch, generating the shifting gravity fields essential for the game.

The Neutral Zone

By ancient treaty, the Grand Conduit is a "Sanctuary of the Sphere." No weapons are permitted within its walls (enforced by a permanent Antimagic Field at the entrances and specialized "Peace-Wards").

The stadium contains "Factions Row," a series of opulent balconies where the leaders of Steamfort, Kigum, and the Pirate Lords sit together. It is whispered that more treaties have been signed in the Grand Conduit's VIP lounges than in any palace.

The Convergence Cup Atmosphere

During the Big Game, the Grand Conduit is a riot of color and sound.

  • The Roar of the Crowd: Over 50,000 spectators cram into the galleries.
  • The Vendor Tunnels: The lower levels are a labyrinth of stalls selling "Aether-Dogs," team scarves, and illegal betting slips.
  • The Aether-Flare: When a goal is scored, the stadium's anchors pulse with light, visible for miles across the Chasm.

Notable NPCs

  • Grand Referee Kora Flint: A retired Striker known for her absolute impartiality and her ability to spot a "Shadow-Tackle" from across the stadium.
  • Barnaby "Odds" Miller: A halfling bookie who operates out of the "Gilded Pipe" tavern in the stadium's basement.
