The Steam Wrights Consortium

The Steam Wrights Consortium

The Steam-Wrights Consortium

The Steam-Wrights Consortium is the most powerful merchant guild in the Northern Continent, controlling the production, distribution, and maintenance of all Aether-Engine technology. Based in the heart of Steamfort, they are the economic engine that drives the Dwarven industrial revolution.

Economic Monopoly

The Consortium owns the largest Aether-mining operations in the North and holds the patents for the specialized alloys required to contain raw Aether-combustion. No airship flies and no steam-golem marches without the Consortium's seal of approval. They have a stranglehold on the export of raw Aether crystals to Kigum, using it as leverage in political negotiations.

Leadership: The High Artificers

The guild is governed by a council of five High Artificers, each representing a major industrial sector (Mining, Metallurgy, Engine Design, Airship Construction, and Security).

  • High Artificer Thrum Ironfist: A traditionalist dwarf who believes Steamfort should cut off all ties with Kigum and focus on total northern hegemony.
  • High Artificer Elena Sterling: A human genius who rose through the ranks. she is the primary architect of the new "Ironclad" airships and secretly advocates for a more open trade policy.

Security: The Iron Sentinels

The Consortium maintains its own private army, the Iron Sentinels. These are elite soldiers equipped with the latest Consortium technology, including steam-powered crossbows and heavy plate armor reinforced with Aether-dampening mesh. They are tasked with protecting mining sites and ensuring that "unauthorized" research into Aether-engines is shut down immediately.

Conflict with Kigum

The Consortium views the Grand Arcane Bank of Kigum as their primary rival. While the Bank controls the "software" of magic (spells and refinement), the Consortium controls the "hardware" (engines and machines). This rivalry is the heart of the "Cold War" between the two cities.
