Shimmer-Beetle

Shimmer-Beetle
The Shimmer-Beetle is a small and highly prized insect inhabiting the sun-drenched outer branches and the glowing Resin-Falls of The Shrouded Boughs. These beetles, typically the size of a human fist, possess a thick, iridescent carapace that shifts through a variety of brilliant colors as they move. They are naturally docile and are often kept as pets by the Briar-Kin or used as "Living Lanterns" by glidists and messengers.
Shimmer-Beetles feed on the nutrient-rich aether-sap of the Mother-Tree and the vibrant petals of canopy flowers. They are social creatures, often found in small groups called "Glimmers" clustered around the forest's sap-vents. Their carapaces are a source of high-quality "Shimmer-Dye," which is used by Muridae craftsmen to create their colorful clothing and sails.
Secret Motivation: The beetles are instinctively drawn to "Magical Purity." They are often found nesting in areas where the forest’s magical resonance is strongest, and their presence is considered a sign of a healthy and stable aether-flow.
Adventure Hook: A large swarm of Shimmer-Beetles has been stolen from The Golden Hive by a group of Gilded Vein Syndicate smugglers. The party is hired by Beetle-Master Kael to track the smugglers and recover the beetles before they are sold to collectors on the mainland.
