The Warden's Roost

The Warden's Roost

The Warden's Roost

Overview & Aesthetic

The Warden's Roost is the high-security military headquarters of the Acorn Guard, situated on a massive, fortified branch near the main trunk of the Mother-Tree. It overlooks the main entrance to The Crown City of Ardor and serves as the strategic heart of the canopy’s defense. The Roost is built from magically hardened wood and reinforced with the iridescent carapaces of giant beetles.

The aesthetic is one of disciplined, arboreal martial power. Racks of needle-rapiers, shell-bucklers, and leaf-kites line the walls, and the central chamber is dominated by a large, bark-carved map of The Shrouded Boughs.

History & Lore

The Roost was constructed shortly after the First Gull War to provide the Acorn Guard with a centralized command post that was both defensible and high enough to observe the outer canopy. It has since become a symbol of Muridae resilience. The Roost also houses the "Memory-Logs"—detailed accounts of every gull attack and outsider encounter in the forest’s history.

Points of Interest

  • The Tactical Chamber: A room where the Grand Warden Hekka and her officers coordinate patrols and defensive strategies.
  • The Beetle-Stables: A series of large, ventilated branch-chambers where the Guard’s elite mounts are kept and trained.
  • The Armory of Ardor: A specialized workshop where Master-at-Arms Bree forges the Guard’s high-quality equipment.
  • The Lookout Balcony: A high, open-air platform that provides an unobstructed view of the Gull-Watch Towers and the misty horizon.

Local Factions & NPCs

  • The Acorn Guard: The Roost is their primary residence and training facility.
  • Grand Warden Hekka: Spends most of her time here, overseeing the Guard’s operations and meeting with city leaders.
  • Flight-Leader Pippin: Often reports here to receive new orders or to brag about his latest successful patrol.
  • Master-at-Arms Bree: Operates the armory, ensuring that every guardsman is equipped with the finest weapons and armor.

Environmental Hazards / Mechanics

  • High-Security: Entering the Roost without authorization requires a successful DC 16 Stealth check. The area is heavily patrolled by elite guardsmen and trained beetles.
  • Unstable Branches: During storms, the outer sections of the Roost can sway violently. Characters must make a DC 14 Dexterity save to remain standing during a "Branch-Shudder" event.
  • Strategic Advantage: Characters who use the Roost's tactical maps and binoculars gain advantage on their next Survival check made to navigate the Boughs.
