The Sky-Hangar

The Sky-Hangar

The Sky-Hangar

Overview & Aesthetic

The Sky-Hangar is a massive, hollowed-out branch located at the highest habitable level of The Crown City of Ardor. It serves as the primary storage and maintenance facility for the Acorn Guard’s elite beetle-cavalry and their specialized heavy gliders. The hangar is wide and open-ended, allowing for quick deployment of "Flights" into the upper canopy.

The aesthetic is one of military industrialism: racks of resin-treated armor, rows of stable-chambers for giant beetles, and specialized workshops for "Beetle-Binding" and aether-tuning. The air is filled with the smell of insect musk, cedar oil, and the ozonous tang of aetheric energy.

History & Lore

The hangar was constructed during the Second Gull War to provide the Acorn Guard with a centralized location to respond to aerial threats. It was built using a combination of Muridae wood-craft and scavenged iron beams from an Argentari airship wreck. The Sky-Hangar is now considered the most secure location in Ardor, and its wide launch-platform is a symbol of the city's aerial dominance.

Points of Interest

  • The Launch Balcony: A wide, protruding platform equipped with aether-lanterns and wind-dampening fields to ensure safe takeoffs in all weather conditions.
  • The Bound-Beetle Stables: High-security chambers where the most decorated and powerful giant beetles are kept, each with its own personal "Binding-Stone."
  • The Wing-Wright’s Workshop: A specialized area where Master Wright Lira and her team design and repair the heavy armored gliders used for aerial combat.
  • The Warden’s Command Post: A small, fortified overlook where Grand Warden Hekka can observe the entire hangar and communicate with the Gull-Watch Towers.

Local Factions & NPCs

  • The Acorn Guard: The primary operators and defenders of the hangar.
  • Flight-Leader Pippin: Often found here, coordinating drills and personally inspecting the gear of his flight.
  • Beetle-Master Kael: The head of the stable-crew, responsible for the health and training of the Guard’s mounts.
  • Master Wright Lira: Oversees the workshop and the development of new aerial technologies.

Environmental Hazards / Mechanics

  • High Altitude Winds: The launch balcony is exposed to the full force of the ocean winds. Characters must make a DC 13 Strength save to avoid being knocked prone during a gust.
  • Tight Security: The hangar is guarded 24/7 by elite troops and trained beetles. Any unauthorized entry requires a successful DC 18 Stealth check.
  • Aetheric Resonance: The concentration of binding-magic in the stables can interfere with spellcasting. Any spell cast within the stables has a 10% chance of triggering a small, harmless aether-flare.
