The Glidist's Overlook

The Glidist's Overlook
Overview & Aesthetic
The Glidist's Overlook is a high-altitude platform located on one of the outermost branches of the Mother-Tree, offering a panoramic view of The Shrouded Boughs and the distant horizon of the Boundary Ocean. The platform is a simple, circular disk made of iron-wood, reinforced with resin and anchored with thick cables to the surrounding branches.
The aesthetic is one of dizzying openness. The platform is often above the main layer of magical mist, allowing visitors to see the "Sea of Fog" below them. The air is cold and thin, and the sound of the wind is constant. The overlook is a popular gathering spot for young Briar-Kin glidists, who use the high thermal currents rising from the ocean to perform aerial stunts.
History & Lore
The overlook was originally built as a secondary watch tower during the First Age, but it was eventually abandoned by the Acorn Guard due to its extreme exposure to the elements. It was reclaimed by a group of freelance glidists who realized that the thermal currents near the outer branches were perfect for leaf-kite maneuvers. It has since become a neutral ground for messengers, racers, and anyone who simply wants to see the world from above.
Points of Interest
- The Launching Ramp: A long, steep bark-slope that extends out into the open air, used by glidists to gain maximum starting speed.
- The Wind-Gauge Tower: A small, spinning structure made of colorful flags and grass-wheels that helps glidists judge the speed and direction of the ocean winds.
- The "Leap of Faith": A narrow branch at the platform’s edge where glidists perform their most daring drop-launches.
- The Sky-Bar: A small, open-air stall that serves hot acorn-cider and dried fruit to chilly visitors.
Local Factions & NPCs
- The Glidists: A loosely organized group of messengers and racers who maintain the platform.

Environmental Hazards / Mechanics
- Extreme Winds: Sudden gusts can force characters to make a DC 14 Strength save or be pushed 10 feet toward the edge.
- Thin Air: Characters who spend more than 2 hours at the overlook must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution save or suffer one level of exhaustion.
- Gliding Mastery: Performing a leaf-kite launch from the overlook grants a +2 bonus to the initial Dexterity (Acrobatics) check.
