Location: The Golden Hive / The Canopy Gardens Level Range: 2-4

Background & Objective

A large swarm of Shimmer-Beetles has been stolen from The Golden Hive by a group of Gilded Vein Syndicate poachers. The poachers are planning to smuggle the beetles out of the forest and sell their rare iridescent carapaces on the mainland. Beetle-Master Kael hires the party to track the poachers into the Canopy Gardens and recover the beetles alive.

The Gimmick: Beetle-Lanterns

The encounter takes place at night. The stolen beetles are contained in several large jars, which provide the only source of bright light in the area. Breaking a jar releases the beetles, who will then follow the person who freed them, acting as a living lantern.

Tactical Combat & Challenges

  • Chasing poachers through a series of vertical garden platforms.
  • Avoiding the "Shimmer-Flash" of the agitated beetles, which can blind everyone in the area.
  • Fighting Syndicate guards who are using specialized "Beetle-Nets" to recapture any escapees.

Narrative Outcomes & Loot

Recovering the beetles restores the city's source of shimmer-dye and earns the party the status of "Beetle-Friends." Loot includes Shimmer-Dye, fine beetle-silk clothing, and a Shimmer-Beetle Larva in a glass jar.
