The Abyssal Siege of The Bastion
Background & Objective
The Abyssal Fleet—a terrifying armada of necrotic ships and drowned spirits—has emerged from the depths to lay siege to The Bastion, the massive floating fortress-city of the pirate-lord Grom the Unsinkable. This is no mere raid; it is a coordinated effort by the Whispering Lich, Kel'Thuz, to establish a foothold in the Crystal Archipelago. The party must aid Grom in defending the Bastion's core and sinking the Abyssal flagship.
Key NPCs & Motivations
- Grom the Unsinkable: A half-giant pirate king who values his fortress-city above all. He is desperate and willing to offer anything to "outside specialists" who can break the siege.
- The Specter of the Sunken King: The undead commander of the Abyssal Fleet. He seeks to reclaim a "Necrotic Spark" hidden deep within the Bastion’s bilges to fuel Kel'Thuz’s expansion.
The Setting: The Bastion
- The Chain Hub: A central platform where massive iron chains anchor the hundreds of lashed-together ships that form the Bastion.
- The Lower Bilges: A dark, flooded maze of hulls and secret passages where "Drowned Shadows" have begun to infiltrate.
- The War-Deck: The highest point of the fortress, bristling with black-powder cannons and currently under heavy fire from "Bone-Galleons."
Encounters & Branching Paths
- The Wave of the Damned (Combat): Repelling a swarm of Drowned Shadows that are scaling the outer hulls and bypassing the Bastion’s arcane wards.
- The Leviathan’s Breach (Challenge/Combat): A massive "Leviathan Husk" (an undead kraken) is ramming the hull. The party must descend into the flooded bilges to strike its "Necrotic Heart."
- The Traitor’s Signal (Investigation/Social): Identifying a member of Grom’s inner circle who has been sabotaging the ward-drums and signaling the Abyssal Fleet.
- The Flagship Boarding (Combat): A final, daring boarding action against the Bone-Galleon flagship to defeat the Sunken King and retrieve his logbook.
Narrative Outcomes & Loot
- Success: The Abyssal Fleet is driven back. The Bastion is saved, and Grom grants the party permanent "Safe Harbor" and access to his legendary armorers.
- Failure: The Bastion is overrun. Crystal Cove falls to the undead, and the Crystal Archipelago becomes a necrotic wasteland.
- Loot: Ghost-Anchor (tethers a ship to the Ethereal Plane), Grom’s War-Hammer (deals extra damage to undead), and a Sunken King’s Logbook (contains intel on Kel'Thuz).
