Role: Pendergast was once a high-ranking mage in Kigum, but he fled to Steamfort after being accused of "Aetheric Heresy." He now works as a consultant for the Syndicate, helping them integrate magic with their technology. He is a man of immense intellect and even greater arrogance, often belittling his Steamfort colleagues for their "primitive" methods.

Secret Motivation: Pendergast is a triple agent. He is working for himself, using Steamfort’s resources to build a "Soul-Transfer Machine." He plans to transfer his consciousness into the body of a dragon, achieving true immortality and power. He is using the Syndicate’s fear of Kigum to justify his increasingly dangerous experiments.

Adventure Hook: Pendergast hires the party to "test" his machine on a captured giant. The test goes horribly wrong, and the giant’s soul is scattered across the city, inhabiting various mechanical objects.
