Tomb Guardian

Tomb Guardian
Ecology
The Tomb Guardian is a highly specialized, ancient dwarven construct designed specifically to protect the Gravity Tombs of Karak-Vann. Unlike typical stone golems that rely on immense weight and brute force, the Tomb Guardian was built to operate perfectly in zero-gravity and shifting gravitational fields. It does not require sustenance, rest, or air, and it has waited in the dark, silent chambers of the tomb for centuries, its singular directive remaining active: destroy intruders.
Appearance
The Guardian is a massive automaton carved from deep-mountain basalt, standing ten feet tall. Its form is sleeker and more aerodynamic than typical dwarven constructs, featuring complex, articulated joints that allow for sudden, jerky movements in mid-air. Its surface is etched with glowing blue runes that hum with anti-gravity magic. Instead of a face, its head is a smooth dome housing a single, vertical slit that emits a piercing crimson light when it detects a threat.
Lair Actions (The Vault of Karak-Vann)
The Guardian is directly linked to the massive colored tuning forks in the boss chamber. It uses its legendary actions to strike these forks, altering the battlefield:
- Red Shift: Gravity pulls violently toward the Red wall. All creatures fall taking bludgeoning damage.
- Blue Shift: Gravity pulls toward the Blue wall.
- Green Shift (Zero-G): Gravity ceases. All creatures begin to drift, and melee attacks are made with disadvantage unless a creature is anchored.
- Yellow Shift (Hyper-Gravity): The gravity intensifies. Movement speed is halved, flying is impossible, and creatures take 1d6 bludgeoning damage at the start of their turns.
Combat Mechanics
- Gravity Thrusters: The Guardian has a fly speed of 40 feet and can hover, moving effortlessly regardless of the current gravitational orientation of the room.
- Slam and Throw: In close combat, it uses its massive stone fists. If it hits a target twice in one turn, it can attempt a grapple. If successful, it uses a bonus action to hurl the target up to 30 feet in any direction—often directly into a spiked wall or a crushing gravity well.
- Debris Cannon: While in Zero-G (Green Shift), the Guardian can use its action to magnetically attract floating sarcophagi or heavy boulders, hurling them as devastating ranged attacks that deal high bludgeoning damage and knock targets prone.
- Inertial Dampeners: The Guardian is completely immune to falling damage and cannot be knocked prone by any means.
Loot
Defeating the Guardian allows the party to safely access the sarcophagus of Karak-Vann. The Guardian itself drops its Aether-Grav Core, a powerful power source that can be fitted to an airship to drastically increase its lift capacity, or crafted into a Belt of Levitation. Additionally, they find the Maul of the Core, a magical hammer that can impose localized hyper-gravity on a critical hit.
