Singing-Moss Swarm

The Singing-Moss Swarm is a semi-sentient and highly reactive colony of "Singing-Moss" that inhabit the crystalline roots and grottos of The Shrouded Boughs. Individually, a patch of moss is a harmless plant that vibrates in response to sound. However, in high-density areas like The Echoing Grotto or The Whispering Roots, the moss can form a collective swarm that is capable of independent movement and aggressive defense.

Singing-Moss Swarms are a natural alarm system for the Mist-Weaver Coven. They capture the sounds of intruders—the clank of armor, the splashing of water, or the chanting of spells—and repeat them with amplified volume, alerting the Coven seers across the forest. If threatened, the swarm can vibrate so violently that it produces a destructive blast of sonic energy, capable of shattering glass and disorienting even the most disciplined adventurers.

Secret Motivation: The swarm is instinctively drawn to "Rhythmic Harmony." They seek to surround and "bond" with anything that produces a constant, soothing frequency, such as the heartbeat of the Mother-Tree or the chanting of the Coven.

Adventure Hook: A large Singing-Moss Swarm has detached itself from the Echoing Grotto and has begun to follow a group of Gilded Corsairs who are carrying a powerful aether-engine. The swarm’s amplified noise is attracting every predator in the area. Seer Morwen hires the party to "quiet" the swarm and recover the engine.
