Aether-Gull

The Aether-Gull is a smaller and highly specialized relative of the Giant Mangrove Gull, inhabiting the magically-infused outer edges of The Shrouded Boughs. These birds possess a shimmering, silver-white plumage that glitters with aetheric energy. Unlike their larger cousins, who are primarily physical predators, Aether-Gulls are "Mana-Scavengers," feeding on the excess magical energy that leaks from the forest’s barrier or from passing airships.

Aether-Gulls are highly intelligent and opportunistic. They are known to follow Briar-Kin glidists or Mist-Whisker skiffs for miles, waiting for a chance to "snatch" a spark of magic from a spellcaster or to peck at an aether-powered motor. Individually, they are more of a nuisance than a serious threat, but a large swarm can quickly drain the power from a small vessel or a group of travelers.

Secret Motivation: The gulls are instinctively drawn to "Aetheric Highs." They often congregate in areas where the forest’s magical barrier is particularly thin, using their own internal resonance to "seal" the breach and prevent the mist from escaping.

Adventure Hook: A large colony of Aether-Gulls has nested in the Fog-Breaker Beacon, causing the aether-pulse to fluctuate and providing a hazard for incoming ships. The party is hired by Master Wright Lira to relocate the birds without damaging the delicate aether-lens.
