The Sunder of 12AR

The Sunder of 12AR

The Sunder of 12AR

Overview

The Sunder of 12AR remains one of the most catastrophic geological and arcane events in recorded history. Occurring merely a dozen years into the Age of Ruin, it was a terrifying climax to the destabilization of the world's magical leylines. The event saw the very bedrock of the primary supercontinent shatter, violently splitting landmasses apart and creating the treacherous oceanic divides known today.

The Cataclysm

Historians and arcane scholars believe that the initial cataclysm that triggered the Age of Ruin weakened the planetary crust's magical bindings. In 12AR, a massive surge of untethered magical energy—often theorized to be a backlash from a malfunctioning ancient artifact or a deliberate act of divine wrath—erupted from the planet's core.

The resulting tectonic shifts were instantaneous and devastating. Entire mountain ranges were swallowed by newly formed chasms, and coastal cities were obliterated by megatsunamis. The sky burned with raw, unfiltered arcane storms for months following the initial fracture.

Aftermath and Legacy

The geographical reshaping isolated surviving populations, forcing them to adapt to entirely new ecosystems and threats. The oceans that flooded the continental rifts became home to mutated aquatic terrors, permanently altering maritime travel and trade.

To this day, "The Sunder" is invoked in curses and cautionary tales. The jagged coastlines and the unpredictable weather patterns in the deep ocean are lingering scars of a world torn apart by forces beyond mortal control. Ruins of pre-Sunder civilizations can occasionally be found partially submerged in the coastal shallows, serving as grim reminders of the disaster.
