The Proclamation of Silence

The Proclamation of Silence (260 AW)
Overview
The Proclamation of Silence was a monumental and controversial edict enacted in 260 AW by the Elven High Council of Lemmion. Fearing the encroaching corruption of the outside world, the political instability of the human kingdoms, and the destructive exploitation of natural resources, the elves chose to sever ties with the rest of Aethervale.
The Great Warding
The Proclamation was not merely a political declaration but a staggering feat of high magic. The most powerful elven archmages gathered at the borders of the Lemmion Enclave and wove an intricate, multi-layered mythallar-powered barrier.
This magical ward shrouded the enclave in dense, impassable illusions and physical barriers. Forests grew impossibly thick, rivers altered their courses to confound navigators, and a pervasive magical silence dampened any external scrying or communication attempts. The borders were sealed; no one was permitted to leave, and trespassing was met with lethal, untraceable force.
Consequences of Isolation
For centuries, Lemmion has remained a myth to the outside world, an untouched paradise—or so it is assumed. The isolation preserved their ancient traditions and deep connection to the fey-magic of the land.
However, rumors persist of the societal cost of the Proclamation. Without external trade or the influx of new ideas, the culture of Lemmion has grown rigidly traditional, and political stagnation plagues the High Council. Furthermore, there are whispers that the immense magical power required to maintain the Silence is slowly draining the life force from the very land they sought to protect, creating hidden zones of magical dead-magic within the sanctuary.
