Muridae Alchemical Primers

Muridae Alchemical Primers

Muridae Alchemical Primers

Alchemical Primers are a specialized and highly guarded category of Muridae technology, developed by scholars like Alchemist Thorne within the Amber Caves. These primers are concentrated chemical mixtures that act as a bridge between the physical and the aetheric, allowing the Mousefolk to create powerful and versatile effects from simple forest materials.

The Foundation of Primers

The primary ingredient in all Muridae primers is unrefined Aether-Sap from the Mother-Tree. This sap is exceptionally volatile and possesses a natural "Spiritual Charge." To create a primer, the alchemist must:

  1. Purify the Sap: Use specialized distillation coils to remove the biological impurities while retaining the aetheric essence.
  2. Infuse the Reagent: Add specific forest-materials—such as ground iron-wood bark, singing-moss spores, or dried beetle-pheromones—to give the primer its specific properties.
  3. Stabilize the Mixture: Use aether-tuning forks to harmonize the mixture’s internal resonance, preventing it from exploding prematurely.

Varieties of Primers

  • Flame-Primer: Used in Acorn-Grenades and fire-arrows. It produces a high-intensity, emerald-colored fire that is difficult to extinguish with water.
  • Sleep-Primer: Used in alchemical sleep-bombs. It releases a cloud of spores that causes immediate lethargy and temporary unconsciousness.
  • Static-Primer: Used to power small clockwork devices or to create localized "Aether-Flares" for signaling.
  • Hardening-Primer: Used by the Wood-Wrights to temporarily increase the strength and density of common mangrove wood.

The Guardians of the Formulae

The knowledge of how to create these primers is limited to a small group of master alchemists and the senior members of the Mist-Weaver Coven. The formulae are recorded on specialized bark-scrolls and kept in a high-security section of Thorne’s Library. Any attempt to steal or replicate these formulae is considered a major crime, as a single misused primer could cause catastrophic damage to the forest’s delicate ecosystem.
