The Forbidden Ancient Deities: Echoes of the Primordial Aether

Before the Seven Saints ascended, Aethervale was ruled by the Primordial Voices—entities of raw elemental and conceptual power. While the Church of the Seven Saints dismisses them as "Aetheric Echoes" or demons, their influence still lingers in the dark corners of the world.

1. Ythul, The Maw in the Deep

Ythul is the embodiment of the "Hungry Aether." It represents the entropic force that seeks to pull all matter back into the primordial chaos.

  • Worship: Forbidden in all civilized lands. Cults of Ythul believe that the world is a mistake that must be "unmade."
  • The Sign: A black spiral that appears to rotate when viewed from the corner of the eye.

2. Xar-Thal, The Lord of the First Brood

While the Ancient Dragons are biological entities, Xar-Thal is their spiritual ideal—the "Dragon-God" of pure power and domination.

  • Connection: It is whispered that the First Brood dragons are merely avatars of Xar-Thal's many-faceted ego.
  • Worship: Practiced by draconic cults and those who seek raw, unearned power. It demands "Tribute in Blood and Gold."

3. Nyxara, The Weaver of the Silences

The goddess of the "Between-Spaces." She rules the gaps between atoms, the silence between words, and the moment just before death.

  • The Shadow-Walkers: Assassins and those who deal in secrets sometimes whisper prayers to Nyxara, though they know she asks for the "Sound of their Heartbeat" in exchange.
  • The Sign: A needle made of obsidian, always pointing toward the nearest vacuum.

4. Grog-Gular, The Earth-That-Remembers

A massive, semi-sentient elemental consciousness that predates the cooling of the world. It does not speak in words, but in tectonic shifts and volcanic eruptions.

  • The Stone-Speakers: Ancient Giantfolk tribes still offer sacrifices to Grog-Gular, believing that the Saints are merely "Fleas on the back of the Great Stone."
  • The Sign: A cracked monolith that bleeds magma when a lie is spoken near it.

5. The Faceless One (The Harbinger of the Void)

An entity from beyond the Aetheric Shell. It represents the "Nothingness" that existed before the First Brood arrived.

  • The Void-Gazers: A small, insane sect of mages who believe that the Aether is a prison and only the Void offers true freedom.
  • The Sign: A mirror that reflects nothing, not even the viewer.

The Heresy of the "Old Blood"

The Saints fought a celestial war against these entities during the Age of Ruin. Most were banished to the "Aetheric Outer-Rim," but they cannot be truly killed. They exist as "Ideas that Bleed," waiting for a crack in the Saints' protection to return to Aethervale.
