The Pendulum Station

The Pendulum Station

The Pendulum Station

Overview & Aesthetic

The Pendulum Station is a massive, swinging platform suspended by titanic chains in the upper shafts of the Chronos-Clock. It is a place of constant, rhythmic motion, swaying several hundred feet in each direction every minute. The station is built from reinforced steel and dark mahogany, and it features several residential and research buildings. The air is thin and cold, and the view of the gears below is both terrifying and majestic.

History & Lore

The station was built by the dwarves of Dal-Dur as a permanent observation post and research facility for the Chronos-Clock. Because the station exists in a "pocket" of stable time created by the clock's motion, its residents age much slower than the rest of the world. It has become a haven for eccentric scholars, temporal mages, and those seeking to escape the flow of history.

Points of Interest

  • The Observation Deck: A wide platform equipped with powerful telescopes and Aether-sensors for monitoring the clock's gears.
  • The Temporal Library: A collection of scrolls and books that exist "outside of time," containing knowledge from both the past and potential futures.
  • The Anchor-Chains: Massive, magically reinforced chains that connect the station to the cavern ceiling.
  • The Chronomancer's Lab: A high-tech workshop where experimental time-magic is studied.

Local Factions & NPCs

  • The Chronos Scholars: A group of neutral mages and historians who live on the station.
  • The Time-Lost Merchants: Extra-dimensional traders who have gotten stuck in the station's stable time-pocket.
  • Grand Archivist Valerius: Who occasionally visits the station to cross-reference his records with the "True Time."

Environmental Hazards / Mechanics

  • Constant Motion: Any creature on the station must succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check at the start of combat or be considered "off-balance" (disadvantage on their first attack).
  • Stable Time: While on the station, any effects that would cause aging (like a ghost's Horrifying Visage) are negated.
  • High Altitude: The thin air can cause exhaustion for those not accustomed to it (DC 11 Con save after 1 hour).
