The Gilded Quarter

The Gilded Quarter
Overview & Aesthetic
The Gilded Quarter is the premier residential and commercial district for Kigum's merchant princes, high-ranking officials, and successful adventurers. It is located on the most stable and scenic levels of the floating Spire. The streets are paved with gold-flecked cobblestones, and the buildings are adorned with intricate carvings, flowing waterfalls, and private Aether-gardens. The air is constantly perfumed, and the "security" is provided by discreet, well-dressed mages and silent clockwork constructs.
History & Lore
Originally a military staging ground, the Gilded Quarter was transformed during the "Era of Abundance" into a showpiece of Kigum's wealth. It is a place where appearance is everything; a person's worth is measured by the complexity of their Aether-robes and the rarity of their familiar. Beneath the surface of luxury, however, it is a nest of vipers, with every tea party and gala serving as a battlefield for political influence.
