The Deep-Delve Vaults

The Deep-Delve Vaults

The Deep-Delve Vaults

Overview & Aesthetic

The Deep-Delve Vaults are the private, heavily fortified territories of Dal-Dur's most powerful mining consortiums. Located deep in the mountain's crust, they are a mix of high-tech industrial labs and traditional dwarven treasure-rooms. The air is thick with the smell of grease and ozone, and the sound of experimental drilling machinery echoes through the narrow, lead-lined corridors.

History & Lore

As the surface-level Aether ran dry, the Consortiums built these vaults to house their most sensitive research and their vast hoards of refined crystals. They are effectively sovereign territory within the mountain, governed by corporate law rather than the King's decrees. Many of the city's most dangerous secrets—including the development of Void-Iron Golems—are hidden within these depths.

Points of Interest

  • The Crystal Resonator Lab: Where the Consortiums experiment with high-pressure Aether-stabilization.
  • The Golem Assembly Line: A secret facility (in some vaults) where the Obsidian Scale manufactures its soulless army.
  • The Private Treasury: A room filled with enough Aether-crystals and precious metals to buy a small nation.
  • The Gravity-Well Lift: A specialized transport system that uses magical gravity to move heavy ore to the surface.

Local Factions & NPCs

  • The Deep-Delve Consortium: The corporate owners of the vaults.
  • Consortium Mercenaries: Highly paid soldiers equipped with advanced (and often illegal) Aether-weaponry.
  • Chief Artificer Morgran: A brilliant but mad scientist who oversees many of the vaults' most dangerous projects.

Environmental Hazards / Mechanics

  • Localized Gravity Fields: Certain rooms have high or low gravity, affecting movement and combat.
  • Lead-Lined Walls: The vaults are immune to all forms of scrying and teleportation magic of 6th level or lower.
  • Automated Security: The halls are filled with pressure plates, steam-traps, and Aether-turrets (Perception DC 16 to notice).
