Overview & Aesthetic

Outpost Delta is a high-tech, underwater research station located several miles beneath the surface of the Crystal Archipelago. It is a pressurized, multi-level facility made of reinforced glass and dark metal, attached to the main vertical shaft of the Sunken Junction. The aesthetic is one of "claustrophobic science"—narrow hallways, humming computers, and massive panoramic windows that look out into the terrifying, bioluminescent dark of the deep ocean.

History & Lore

Originally built by a coalition of Kigum and Steamfort researchers to study the "Glass-Cracks" in the ocean floor, the outpost has since become a vital strategic hub. It is the primary facility for the development of Aether-Submarines and the study of "Pressure-Madness"—a magical ailment that affects those who spend too much time in the deep. The outpost is self-sufficient, using thermal energy from the Sunken Junction to power its life-support systems.

  • The Moon-Pool: A pressurized chamber used for deploying and recovering submersibles and divers.
  • The Panoramic Lounge: A large room with floor-to-ceiling windows where researchers can observe the deep-sea life (and the occasional Leviathan).
  • The infirmary for "Pressure-Madness": A specialized medical wing dedicated to treating the mental and physical effects of deep-sea exploration.
  • The Aether-Reactor: The facility's power source, which also provides the outpost with its artificial gravity.

Environmental Hazards / Mechanics

  • Crushing Pressure: Any breach in the station's glass results in immediate flooding and 10d10 bludgeoning damage to everyone in the room.
  • Pressure-Madness: Spending more than 24 hours in the outpost requires a DC 12 Wisdom save or the character suffers from a temporary form of short-term madness (as the DMG table).
  • Limited Oxygen: If the reactor fails, the outpost has only 1 hour of breathable air remaining.
