Resonant Shell

Wondrous Item, common

The Resonant Shell is a popular and useful trinket among the Muridae of The Shrouded Boughs. These small, colorful shells are recovered from The Shimmering Reef and are then placed in The Echoing Grotto for several weeks, where they are naturally colonized by a thin layer of Singing-Moss. The shell captures and stores a specific sound, which can then be replayed at will.

Properties

1. Audio Recording: As an action, you can hold the shell to your mouth and speak for up to 10 seconds. The shell will capture the sound of your voice. Once a sound is recorded, the shell will store it until it is overwritten.

2. Audio Playback: As a bonus action, you can squeeze the shell. It will replay the stored sound at its original volume. The playback is clear and perfectly mirrors the original recording.

3. Warning-System: If the shell is attached to a doorway or a chest, it can be "set" to replay its sound whenever the object is moved. This makes it a popular primitive alarm system for Muridae nests.

4. Musical Trinket: Many Muridae use resonant shells to store their favorite songs or the voices of loved ones, carrying them as small, comforting mementos.
