Aether Express Packages

Aether-Express Packages

Type: Utility Item / Plot Device Origin: House Thalric / Kigum Merchant's Wharf

Aether-Express Packages are the standard for high-speed, high-security logistics in Aethervale. Managed primarily by House Thalric, these packages are enchanted with localized "Weightlessness" and "Impact-Resistance" spells, allowing them to be transported by griffin or airship with minimal risk of damage. Each package is sealed with a unique, Aetheric "Wax-Seal" that can only be broken by the intended recipient or a master of arcane locksmithing.

The contents of these packages vary wildly, from delicate alchemical reagents and sensitive diplomatic correspondence to illegal black-market artifacts being smuggled into the city. The delivery boys who carry these packages, often young students from the Academy District or ambitious orphans from The Shadows, are known for their speed and their uncanny ability to navigate the city's vertical architecture. A lost or intercepted Aether-Express package can contain anything from a common love letter to a secret that could topple a noble house.

Plot Hooks:

  • The Lost Delivery: A delivery boy on a floating disk has lost control in the Merchant's Wharf, scattering dozens of glowing packages. The party is hired to recover as many as possible before they are looted by "Shadow" gangs.
  • The Wrong Package: The party accidentally receives a package intended for Lord Magistrate Valerius, containing evidence of his involvement with the Obsidian Scale. They must decide what to do with this dangerous information.
  • The High-Stakes Delivery: House Thalric hires the party to deliver a "Priority One" package to a remote outpost in the North. The package is heavily warded and attracts the attention of both the Gear Grinders and the Obsidian Scale.
